Liversedge   v   Chester-le-Street     4 - 1

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Chester turned in yet another woeful performance to crash out of the FA Vase, 4-1 at Liversedge. Chester made a poor opening and it was no surprise when Liversedge too the lead after 7 minutes when Josh Carmichael failed to deal with a cross from the left and Jermaine Moyce was left with a simple tap-in. Two minutes later, another cross from the left was not dealt with but Moyce headed just over the bar. Chester was unfortunate not to equalise after 26 minutes when Rob Draper saw his shot come back off the bar. It led to a goalmouth scramble and Nicky Kane saw his shot hit the post. The following minute, Nathan Fisher broke clear but the keeper made a good save. Chester had their best spell of the game and drew level after 39 minutes when Nathan Fisher beat the offside trap, raced on to go around the keeper and fire home. However, that was as good as it got for within a minute Liversedge had restored their lead. They made a break down the left and the cross into the middle found the unmarked Paul Walton and he fired home. Liversedge almost increased their lead on the stroke of half-time. A corner was swung in from the right and Josh Carmichael only punched the ball down. It was cleared to the edge of the area where Lee Ryan hit a first-time shot which curved just the wrong side of the post. The second half belonged totally to Liversedge with Chester rarely threatening the goal. After 50 minutes, Josh Home Jackson received the ball inside the area but his shot was deflected for a corner. Liversedge increased their lead after 63 minutes. Paul Walton cut in from the right to fire a shot which Josh Carmichael could only block into the path of Marcus Warmsley and he fired in. Two minutes later and Liversedge nearly scored again when Scott Ryan broke clear but he was stopped by a great tackle from Ian Davison. Chester fell further behind after 82 minutes. Damian Maw lost possession to let Marcus Warmsley in but Josh Carmichael turned the ball for a corner. From the corner, Jermaine Moyce got in a header which Josh Carmichael failed to clear and Scott Ryan hammered the ball home. Difficult to understand how we could play so well against a good Newcastle Benfield side only a couple of weeks ago and then plummet the depths in this game.
