Dunston UTS   v   Chester-le-Street     3 - 2

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Chester staged a good second half recovery but still ended up pointless after going down 3-2 at Dunston. Chester gave yet another terrible performance in the first half and they could consider themselves rather fortunate to go in at the interval only 2-0 down. The went behind after 4 minutes when Jonathan Carmichael could only parry a shot into the path of Michael Dixon who fired in. After 7 minutes, Michael Laws fired in a shot which brought a good save from the keeper. Chester almost drew level after 11 minutes following a well-worked move. Nathan Fisher played the ball left to Rob Draper and his cross to the far side found Josh Home-Jackson but his header brought a good save from Dunston keeper Liam Connell. Dunston doubled their lead after 16 minutes when Terry Galbraith's cross from the left was headed into his own net by Rob Draper. After 24 minutes Chester made ground down the left and Nathan Fisher pulled the ball back to Craig Price but his shot went well wide of the target. Dunston continued to press forwards and create openings. After 35 minutes, Mark O'Bern found himself in space but his header brought yet anther good save from Carmichael. Chester were forced to make two substitution at half-time, with Ian Aitken replacing Jonathan Carmichael and Nicholas Kane coming on for Luke Gilhespy. The second half was a complete turn around with Chester playing some attractive football and taking the game to Dunston. Their pressure paid off after 58 minutes when Ian Davison delivered a good cross from the left and Josh Home-Jackson ran in to volley the ball past the keeper. Two minutes later, Nathan Fisher raced through to fire in the equaliser. Chester nearly fell behind after 68 minutes when a corner from the left found Michael Dixon but his header was hooked clear off the line by Ian Dixon. Dunston began to get on top and after 75 minutes a free kick into the area found Michal Laws in the clear but he placed his header over the bar. Dunston scored what proved to be the winning goal after 77 minutes. A free kick into the area was not clear and after a short goalmouth scramble, Chris Rue bundled the ball in from close range. After a dismal first half, it was nice to see the fight-back in the second half.
