Chester-le-Street   v   Bedlington Terriers     3 - 2

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Chester turned the form book upside down again as they twice came from behind to beat Bedlington Terriers 3-2. Defences held the edge in the opening stages with few openings to either side. After 21 minutes, Lee Ludlow cut in from the right to fire in a drive which was well held, low down by keeper Ian Aitken. Bedlington took the lead after 25 minutes. Christian Graham played Mark Sheeran down the right and he hit his cross low into the middle for Lee Ludlow to run in and fire home. Bedlington nearly increased their advantage after 36 minutes when Gareth McAlindon struck a free kick through the wall. Ian Aitken saw the ball late but produced a great stop to turn the ball for a corner at full stretch. After 48 minutes, Josh Home-Jackson made a good run down the right and played the ball into the area but Nathan Fisher failed to make a good contact with the ball and only managed to het it wide of the post. Chester drew level after 60 minutes. Nathan Fisher hit a corner from the left to the far side and Michael Allan returned a great cross to the far post for Jimmy Farrell to run in and head home. Bedlington regained the lead after 71 minutes when Chester lost possession just inside their own half and the ball was played to Ludlow on the right. He raced top the by-line and crossed to the far post for Jamie Poole to fire in. The game continued to flow from end to end and Chester equalised for the second time after 81 minutes. A corner into the heart of the area was headed down and the referee penalised keeper Paul Newton for holding the ankles of Danny Petts, with Josh Home-Jackson firing in from the penalty. Chester claimed the winner after 87 minutes when Nathan Fisher had a good run down the right and his cross into the area was turned in by Danny Petts. A great performance which only made it more difficult to understand why we can play so well against the better sides and then struggle against poor ones.
