Chester made it through to the quarter-final of the Durham Challenge Cup with a 2-0 win over Dunston. Dunston had the majority of possession in the opening stages without threatening the Chester goal. After 19 minutes, Nicholas Kane broke from defence and raced the full length of the field but his final shot went just wide of the post. Chester made the breakthrough after 27 minutes. Nathan Fisher broke through the middle. Craig Price was waiting unmarked on the right but Nathan shot and the ball was blocked but broke out to Craig who fired a great shot across the goal into the far corner. Chester doubled their lead after 33 minutes when Nathan Fisher cut in from the left and his low drive into the middle was turned into his own goal by Mark O'Bern. Dunston dominated the second period but the Chester defence held firm and limited the goal opportunities. After 53 minutes, Darren Forsyth hit a low drive into the middle from the left with Andrew Bulford sliding in at the far post but failing to make any contact. After 58 minutes the ball was crossed into the middle for Michael Laws to flick on a header but the ball flashed wide of the post. After 64 minutes, Cut in from the left to fire in a shot which Josh Carmichael blocked and he recovered quickly to gather the ball. Dunston continued to press forwards and lifted many high balls into the area but they were all dealt with by the Chester defenders. After 87 minutes another high ball was hit into the area. Keeper, Josh Carmichael failed to punch clear but Steve Preen saw his return header go wide of the target. Another good victory. Yes, Dunston enjoyed most of the possession but they failed to turn that into goal chances. Josh Carmichael only had one good save to make in the whole game.
