Team Northumbria   v   Chester-le-Street     5 - 1

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Chester crashed to a 5-1 defeat at league leaders Team Northumbria. TNO took the lead after 8 minutes when a deep cross from the right found Peter Watling unmarked and he made no mistake. After 11 minutes, a corner from the right was met by Tom Vickers but he headed wide of the target. TNO doubled their lead on 24 minutes when Luke Gilhespy managed to block a shot on the line but Nathan Deverdics fired in the rebound. Chester failed to make much impression on the TNO defence. Chester conceded a third goal within seconds of the restart. TNO made ground down the right and when the ball was crossed low into the middle, Scott Donaldson missed the ball and it left Lee Scott with a simple tap in. Four minutes later, another ball into the area was not cleared and Scott forced the all home. After 71 minutes, Chris Rookes made a good block and he recovered quickly to tip the follow-up shot from Deverdics over the bar. TNO went nap after 85 minutes when Scott beat the offside trap and raced on to fire home. Chester scored a consolation in the last minute when Kyle Morris slipped the ball to Scott Swanston and although his initial shot was blocked, he fired in the rebound. After the good performances and results from the previous two games, it was a disappointing result from a very poor performance.
